Daily Deviation

Given 2005-09-14
Far be it for anyone to speculate on how things get created, but creation_ second day by *polaus takes an intriguing look into such a majestic contemplation. With splashes of chromatic technical matter, itís a pretty thing to behold, to say the least! ( Suggested by he1z and Featured by halfliquid )

PS. PHOTOSHOP ONLY??!!?!?!?

You are one sick dude, and I mean that in the most complimentary way possible. I've been fooling around w/Photoshop off and on for a couple of years now. My mind can't even begin to wrap itself around how you do your work. Just keep it up.

Message?

It's just a pretty picture that took a ton of talent to make.

I disagree. But I'm a writer. I think everything has a message. Certainly most art does. I'm not exactly sure what polaris is saying, but it's profound. I's love to hear what the artist has to say about it.

The message is that it's pretty and nice to look at and that it took a lot of talent to create.

In my opinion, most art does not have a message and a lot of twats look for "the message" in art, this coming from someone who's grown up with a mother as a professional artist and been through the financial struggles she encountered. I don't give a shit what the "message" is, if you painted random colors on a canvas with a roller brush, that's not art, that's a person messing around with a roller brush.

I would most certainly not hide a message in something like that, because 90% of people would be too stupid to get it anyway. I'd just SAY my message, via writing (computer or paper) or speech or whatnot. Sure, I've seen artists make big paintings with these meanings that they want people to understand... but most people are too stupid to get it, and most art fanatics are too stupid to look at something on the surface, which is also what a lot of art happens to be; surface value, pretty pictures.

For example, music is art, but music is also entertainment. Sure, you can get "the message" out by a song... but that doesn't mean it's going to be a good song. This is also selfish, in my opinion, because it devalues instrumental. You can still give messages through instrumental, though it's usually music-related.

I'm rambling but yeah you get my point, J-M-Richards.

Well, you're entitled to your opinion, but I think that's a) really cynical and b) really kind of egotistitical--to say other people are too stupid to get a message in art.

Just because you and your mother did not focus on the message doesn't mean that other artists don't. If that particular picture that started this discussion was only about prettiness and talent, the artist would have titled it something like "a really cool picture I made only on photoshop."

Does all art have a message? I don't necessarily think so. I have a charcoal piece in my gallery that's just of an actress that I did for an assignment. It wasn't meant to say anything.

Still, if your view is that art is just art and only for displaying talent and beauty, hey, that's what your art will say.
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with having art for the sake of displaying talent and beauty, but I think you're overlooking the fact that the vast majority of any art throughout history--paintings, sculpture, drama, poetry, prose, symphonies, all of it--was basically done to tell a story, or in other words, convey a message.

Just because something is entertainment does not mean it can't say something. Take a really good listen to the radio next time you have it on. 90% of the songs you will hear are either telling a story or giving an opinion on life. Even instrumental music is meant to convey something--an emotion, and experience.....And I'm sorry that you don't seem to include writing in with art, since this site obviously does.

Sorry, but you kind of got me on one of my soapboxes. Finding symbolism and deeper meaning in things...kinda one of my passions. Like I said, you're entitled to your opinon. Just try not to belittle others who differ with yours and do try to see a deeper meaning in art.

Okay, I'm just not going to address anything and say this:

People who try to "find symbolism and deeper meaning in things" are people I typically do not like at all. I am your exact opposite and I don't want to continue the discussion further, because out of digust I will probably end up saying something distateful.
